If a person is suffers from dental anxiety,  a sedative can be used to help them through their dental procedure.

The use of gas is quite common to many dentist offices and is very safe. Gas is used to help a patient relax during treatment. A mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is used in the process.

Your dentist may prescribe a pill to help a patient relax. However, pills take time to take effect and should be only be used as instructed by your dentist.

If you are looking for a quick-acting sedative, intravenous sedatives are injected directly into your bloodstream.  A general anesthetic will put a patient to sleep for the dental procedure.
